Serious Dog Health Problems - Family - Pets

Some health problems in dogs can be handled while some are almost incurable. There are some serious dog health problems which cause a lot of pain to them and could also be dangerous for others. One of the more serious health problems faced by a dog is rabies. This disease can be passed on to humans too making it even more dangerous. It is lethal to dogs as well as to humans, which is why it is important for the dogs to get routine rabies vaccines. Preventing rabies is important and it is necessary not to let your dog roam out of your sight especially on the streets. Dogs that have picked up rabies because of infection from another infected animal will show fearfulness, shyness, anxiety and changes in personality. Rabies infected dogs tend to overreach to sights and sounds and are restless and agitated, licking the original bite wound. At later stages, full blown aggression, disorientation and seizures follow. Paralysis in the neck and head region, foaming at the mouth and salivation are some of the other symptoms. Sadly, dogs suffering from rabies are usually euthanized as there isnt really an effective cure. Another serious health problem encountered in dogs is Parvovirus. Almost 80% of the puppies suffering from parvovirus eventually die; so this disease has to be treated as quickly and aggressively as possible. Puppies should be given parvovirus shot even before you bring them home because parvovirus is considered to be present everywhere, although it spreads from dog to dog through their faeces. You will have to keep cleaning the carpets and everything else in your house that the dog has come in contact with to ensure that the infectious nature of the disease is not permanently present in the house. Dogs suffering from parvovirus will show such symptoms as diarrhoea, vomiting, listlessness, lack of appetite and drooling. Another serious viral problem seen in dogs is canine distemper. Puppies 3 to 6 months old are especially vulnerable. Th e disease spreads through infected body fluids, faeces, urine and various other contributors. Acute fever, runny nose and discharge from the eyes, anorexia, respiratory issues, gastrointestinal problems and subsequent rounds of fever are some of the symptoms shown by a dog infected by this problem. This viral disease affects multiple systems in the body which is why it should be treated as early as possible. Thickened footpads and neurological symptoms might also be shown by the dogs.
