HOW TO STOP DOG FOOD AGGRESSION - Family - Pets

I would like to share some tips on how to stop dog food aggression. With just a few great pointers you can put an end to your dogs bad habit. Dog food aggression is a dog behavior problem that is difficult for humans to understand. It doesn't make sense that your dog would think of you as a threat to their food. If your dog glares at you, snarls, growls and positions himself between you and the foodhe is actually telling you "this is mine, go away, find your own". He is letting you know that he considers himself as the leader or alpha dog in your household. Dog food aggression is a dominance issue, it isserious and needs to be taken care of immediately, and it won't just go away.

We've all made the mistake of laughing and even encouraging our little dogs when they first display the "cute" signs of dog food aggression. Don't let this happen! Food aggression in dogs should never be tolerated as you never know when it can escalate into something more dangerous. Why Does Your Dog Display Dog Food Aggression? Dog food aggression can be triggered by any number of factors. Here are a few:

- Your dog is desperate for this food, in his mind he doesn't know if he will get any more. Because of this he protects or guards his food, just like he would have in the wild.

- It's possible that your dog doesn't even understand that his dog food aggression is a problem. In such cases there is an obvious communication problem between human and dog.

Here are a few tips for you:

- If your dog is directing his aggression towards other dogs the best thing to do is separate them when they eat. Feed them in different rooms.

- Make sure everyone in the family is involved in this dog food aggression training.

- Take control of feeding time. You control the time and place of dinner.

- Make it clear to your puppies that it's good to have people around when they are eating. If you do this at first you will almost certainly prevent dog food aggression.

Don't let your dog "win" the food through his growling, this would reward the very behavior you are trying to eliminate. So if you are worried that your dog might be a threat to your family or other pets at dinner time. Don't, with a little work this habit will end.
