Dog Food Allergies - Family - Pets

As in man some dogs are more prone to food allergies than others. By keeping an eye on your dogs' behaviour you can notice any reactions your dog has. Some dogs may have different reactions than other but some key symptoms can be Itching any part of the body more vigorously, biting limbs and infection of eyes or ears. Most dogs will have diarrhea or sickness but this is unlikely to be an allergy and more likely to be a bad stomach

Dog food allergies are mainly more common as most of your dog's foods are made from ready made foods. Like prepared human food, dog food contains more filter, proteins and colouring. The gastro intestinal tract is involved in the majority of food allergies, which depending on your dog can be more sensitive too some foods than others.

If you try a different dog food to what they are used too, keep and eye out for different behaviour patterns and keep a diary, of what your dog eats and any unusual behaviour your dog is showing. If you are at all worried ask for professional help from your vet and tell them with as much information as possible which will help rule out other causes.

Some dog breeds are more prone than others and seeking advice from your vet will give you more knowledge of the different foods you dog can eat and the right diet. For example, I have a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, he only eats when he is hungry and not because the food is there. He has a sensitive stomach and as the vet suggested we only give him sensitive dry dog food. Knowing this information it has given me more insight of any symptoms he shows when experiencing allergies.

As with recent studies of children and food additives, this can be linked with dogs too. Dogs did not originally have prepared food and ate raw meats, they now have a die at that contains preservatives and amid of added colours. If you make the decision to mix your dogs food diet the best way to do is to introduce this slowly and keep a diary of any signs of allergic reactions.

Dog food allergies can happen at times and keeping a close eye on your dog will reduce this risk.

Dog food allergies is different to food intolerance. Food intolerance is the result of poor digestion, such as lactose intolerance. Missing or low levels of the milk digesting enzyme lactase is the cause of lactose intolerance in dogs and humans.
